Lawler White Studios
Functional Art Works in Progress

By the 1st of May, it was already becoming too hot to carve stone out in the direct sun. I moved the sculpture to the concrete apron outside the north door of the studio.

There are only 3 types of weather in Kentucky: too hot to work, too cold to work or too nice to work.

This picture shows the front view has a group of 3 cubic forms that are starting to take shape. I have also started tentative carving of some of the intertwining forms with the air hammer.

The back side of the sculpture has had the entire surface ground smooth with a diamond blade. A 2nd group of 3 cubic forms has barely begun to emerge.

I have spent more time with the air hammer to begin the creation of intertwining forms.

I have made a major movement under the newly formed cubic group and have carved a negative space to pierce the larger form.
